Busy Lizzie's provides childcare for children aged 6 months to 5 years within a term time basis. We believe strongly in the importance of play within Early Years as it is through this that children learn and develop. Therefore we operate a free flow environment where children are able to move between the different areas of the setting, choosing what they would like to do both inside and outside. Staff support children to play positively and encourage them to extend their ideas, providing resources where necessary to help them to develop in all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
The EYFS sets out requirements for settings providing care for children between birth and 5 years of age. It tells us certain standards that we must meet and policies that we must have to support these.
It sets out the expected developmental pattern for children in these ages within the following areas of learning:
Prime areas - these are the most important areas as they are the foundation blocks for all other learning:
Personal, Social and Emotional
Communication and Language
Specific areas - these are concentrated on more once a child is 3 years though a child may develop in these areas naturally before this age
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and Design
We support children to develop in all these areas through engaging in their play and planning experiences around their interests. However we focus more strongly on the Prime areas, as without these a child cannot develop in the Specific Areas. We pay particular attention to supporting children with their PSE development as we strongly feel that a child needs to be able to interact positively with other children, express their emotions appropriately and become independent in order that they can thrive and develop once they begin school.
